baby-sparrow-hand-www-lg Just as Callum was heading to bed last night he looked out the windows and said “what’s that Cleo’s got in her mouth” She was heading for that cat flap so I went racing down to the kitchen to stop her. There was no way I wanted her bringing another half eaten dead animal in the house.

She saw me and opened her mouth in surprise and a baby sparrow fell out. The sparrow sat on the floor looking at me with very wide eyes.

We chased the cats out and locked their cat flap while deciding what to do.  Dawn found a box and picked the bird up (I couldn’t do it, I’m such a wuss about things like that).

The next problem was what to do with it now. Dawn picked up a little bit of cat food on a spoon and reached into the box. The bird opened it’s mouth wide but closed it before any food could go in.  We gave up on that

We decided to keep it in the box overnight and decide what to do in the morning if it was still alive.

Well hurrah, it was alive this morning. We were all set to hang a little basket in the tree that we could put it in. Dawn opened the box and it flew out – we didn’t know it could fly.  We opened the patio door and shooed it out then we shut the cats in to give it some time to get away.  I half expected to see one of the other neighbourhood cats run past with it in their mouths but we didn’t.

Probably come back and shit on our washing later.
